First, It was Diego Maradona, then Steve Yzerman, Now, stories are circuating about Former Cowboys and Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson, as it was revealed he is in Nicaragua taping episodes of "Survivor". This may be the strangest story of all, as Maradona and "The Captain" simply followed the examples of Preki, Michel Platini, Wayne Gretzky, and other former stars, by simply moving into the coaching and executive ranks, while Johnson is eating The Lord knows what in Nicaragua. I doubt he is yelling "How 'Bout Dem Cowboys" on the beaches there.
Along with these guys, if the rumors circulating around England are true, We may well have seen the last of David Beckham as a player. The story has it that Fabio Capello will coach the Brits in Euro 2012 with Becks acting as his understudy. Then, Beckham will take over, with the hope that he can have some success like Maradona did with the Argentines the last couple of years, and secondly, they hope he can, along with 1980's Olympic Gold Medalist Track Star Sebastian Coe, lead a successful British bid for the 2018 World Cup. The Brits would be a good choice for the tournament. Because London is hosting the 2012 Olympics, They have plenty of new or updated facilities for the tournament. As far as what type of coach Beckham would make, that of course, remains to be seen.
Last but not least, Yzerman made another good move in the rebuilding of his Tampa Bay Lightning, as he acquired Simon Gagne from the Philadelphia Flyers for Matt Walker, and a fourth-round pick in the 2011 draft. Will this make th Lightning instant Stanley Cup contenders? No, but, Yzerman is assembling enough of a solid group around which to build, that Gagne was more than willing to waive his no-trade clause, and for that Yzerman should be commended.
