Way Back in 1974, Alice Cooper sang "I wanna be elected". Today he was. He meant to a political office, and that did not happen, but he was elected to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, along with Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Darlene Love(who's producer will NOT be in attendance, as those jail bars can get i n the way), and Tom Waits.
Perhaps the biggest surprise, was the fact that Bon Jovi, who's popularity has never been bigger than it is now, and someone who I assumed was a shoo-in (silly me), was NOT elected. I have to believe that he will eventually get in, as he is far more deserving than ABBA, who got in last year, and let's face it, while Diamond has had a long and very successful career, calling him a "rock star" is a stretch, to say the least. NOW, if this were called the "Pop Music Hall Of Fame", then Diamond's induction would be a given(and probably would have happened years ago), then again, ABBA got in, and Diamond has accomplished far more than they did, despite their huge success.
I was further dissappointed that the J.Geils Band was passed over. Obviously the voters never came through Detroit in the 1970's/80's, which became the Boston band's "second home" during that period, as I saw Geils being called "one hit wonders", which they most certainly were not. This being said, I fully intend to celebrate Alice's induction, as it is decades overdue. Today, he was finally "Elected".
