Now that the NBC/Comcast merger has gone through, they can put together a very competitve bid.; I have no problem with them keeping the Winter Games in particular, as a renamed "NBCSports Channel"(Versus) would be carrying the NHL anyway, and their other cable partners did a pretty good job with curling, which is a sport most Americans know little about anyway. Further, if Versus lands MLS rights, that would create opportunities for soccer announcers to work the Olympic games.
The USTA has agreed in principle with CBS to keep the U.S. Open tennis tournament on the eye through 2014. It makes sense to keep the U.S. Open on CBS. They've been together for decades, and the relationship has been mututally beneficial.
I criticized Versus about the fact they did not carry the Red Wings-Penguins, at least in Detroit. I was wrong. The game was a dud. The All-Star game is going to be Team Lidstrom vs. Team Staal. They are going to do a nationally televised fantasy draft to divide up the players two days before. I find myself thinking, "why not have the players throw their sticks on the ice, and pick them, up as they are picked. It worked for us when we were growing up. I admit, I'm being a little facetious, as I know that is not going to happen.
