November 22, 1962
This date in 1962 was thanksgiving day. The Lions were playing the undefeated, defending champion Green Bay Packers at Tiger Stadium. The Lions had lost 9-7 to the Pack earlier in the year, and were loaded for bear. They sacked Bart Starr 11 times, and raced out to a 26-0 lead, before the Pack scored two garbage time touchdowns to make the final 26-14. Another bit of irony. The game kicked off about Noon, so halftime was about 1:30 PM ET/12:30 CT, which was Dallas time. Since the game was nationally televised, the President was likely watching the game on the Washington, DC CBS channel with his brothers at the White House, while the Thanksgiving meal was being prepared. Little did anyone know, about the time the game reached halftime, the President had exactly one year to live.
