Soccer in North America has always been a sport that roughly runs parallel to the baseball season, and that lessens the competition, as opposed to competing with the NBA, NHL, AND the Colossus of American sports, and, as others have stated on this thread, the climate in the northern part of the continent is absolutely brutal in the winter, which would probably kill any expansion into Detroit, for instance.
